Welcome to one of my favourite corners or Cornwall. St Merryn is a small village near to Padstow and some of the amazing beaches of this stretch of the North Cornwall coast.
If you’re looking to base yourself in St Merryn and looking for a perfect place to stay then I hope that this article will be helpful for you in your hunt for amazing, unique and memory making holiday accommodation.

Why St Merryn is a great place to stay in Cornwall
If you’re searching for accommodation in St Merryn then you likely know a little bit about it already. It’s just a small village, only a few miles from the more popular Padstow.
Because you’re outside of Padstow you’re likely to find larger holiday homes, cottages with parking and it will be a little quieter too. Padstow can get incredibly busy so if you don’t like that vibe, staying in a village nearby makes much more sense.
St Merryn has a lot to offer for a holidaymaker. It has a couple of small shops, a petrol station, some restaurants (including Rick Stein’s pub The Cornish Arms) and takeaways right on your doorstep. I love having some options that mean I don’t need to get in my car!
Nearby St Merryn:
- Padstow – harbour village with boat trips. Also has a large Tesco too.
- Beaches – lots of them including Harlyn Bay and Constantine Bay
- Wadebridge – small town with cycle hire for riding the Camel Trail. You’ll find a large Tesco, Aldi and B&M Bargains here too.
- National Trust sites including Bedruthan Steps are just a few miles away
- Newquay – large town for surfing, shops and a bit more life!
You might also like to consider Harlyn Bay for accommodation that’s a little nearer the beach.

The Farmer’s Arms
If you’d rather stay in a bed and breakfast for your holiday to St Merryn then your top option is going to be The Farmer’s Arms which also happens to be one of the pubs in the village.
They have twin, double, triple and quadruple rooms available and they also have some dog friendly accommodation too.

Holiday Cottages and Airbnbs in St Merryn
Chy Lowen
A home from home type holiday cottage and situated directly in the village of St Merryn so excellent for popping to the corner shop if needed or for a trip to the pub for a meal or drink. It has a small garden too for kids to play in or for having evening drinks.
Sleeps up to 5 in 2 bedrooms with off road parking available too.

Tregavone Barn
Sleeping 6 people in 3 bedrooms this barn is incredibly cosy and perfect for a family holiday (however not suitable for dogs). The views from the windows are simply spectacular looking over rolling fields.
While it seems in the middle of nowhere you’re still very close to all that the coastline and nearby towns have to offer.

Puddleduck
This holiday cottage is a barn conversion which is really well done and is located just outside St Merryn. One of a number of holiday cottages which all share some playing areas for badminton, basketball and skittles.

Uphill Cottage
Uphill Cottage is located in Penrose which is a small village near St Merryn and right by Porthcothan beach so if you’re looking for somewhere in walking distance to the beach this one might be worth checking out.
It’s a 3 bedroom cottage, furnished immaculately in a cosy country style, and it sleeps 5. It’s pet friendly and one dog is accepted here. There’s a lovely conservatory to sit and admire the view and a wood burning stove in the cosy living room.

Shepherd’s Hut
For something a little different and perfect for a couple for a romantic getaway. This small, fun shepherds hut is located in St Merryn so perfectly placed for so many things on your Cornwall holiday.
There’s private access and parking available too.

There are a number of holiday parks just outside St Merryn and sometimes that can be a cheaper option when looking for somewhere to stay. Often the lodges or statics are owned by individuals and let out through booking sites.

Campsites near St Merryn
If you’re looking to camp in this area with a tent, camper van or caravan then you have quite a few options too.
I advise booking ahead in summer months as we often drove past places saying they were fully booked last summer.
Higher Harlyn Park – just down from the centre of the village. They do electric hook up points and they also have a bar, restaurant and swimming pool.
Trewithen Caravan and Camping – 30 pitches, 12 with electric. A more simple site with toilet block and laundry. Gorgeous views.
Trevean Caravan and Camping Park – family friendly site with a play park on site. Touring and camping pitches and also has some static caravans to rent too.
Trethias Farm – Perfect for those looking for a peaceful site with sea views. Just a short walk to the coastal path.
